Zanzibar celebrates first golf course

Sea Cliff Golf Resort and Spa, home to Zanzibar’s only golf course, will be showcasing the property at the International Golf Travel Market in Marrakesh between October 14 and 17.

Sea Cliff is presenting its nine-hole course, designed by Peter Matkovitch for the third year running. Sea Cliff also features a full-length under-cover driving range, chipping and putting greens, a Pro Golf shop and a beachside club house, complete with a lounge deck and bar overlooking the Indian Ocean.

The International Golf Travel Market is the largest annual global gathering of golf and tourism industry professionals and expects to exhibit over 450 brands and attract at least 500 different tour operators and travel buyers. Host city for this year’s event, Marrakesh, at the base of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, has been voted Africa’s Capital of Culture for 2020.

Veer Patel, Director of Pearlsun Hotels and Resorts, says: “As the International Golf Travel Market is not just about golf, we are proud to showcase the unique tourism potential of Zanzibar and the many historic and uniquely interesting sites such as the world-famous Stone Town”.

Sea Cliff also offers alternative sporting activities such as horse riding, tennis, squash, swimming pools, a spa and children’s facilities.

“It’s a delight to witness golfers and their families completely unwind at the end of the day at one of our poolside restaurants, drinking in the exhilarating vistas or simply enjoying the fresh salt sea air on the pier,” says Patel.
